Aristocrat Tower
Chicago’s new Aristocrat Tower, with Chess Lofts nearby, brings a touch of the city’s history to modern, urban living. Located at 2039 S. Prairie Avenue in the South Loop, the structures are part of the Prairie Station development and pay tribute to Chicago’s blues music heritage. The site is close to where brothers Leonard and Phil Chess first established the Aristocrat record label, later renamed Chess Records, and recorded then-edgy musicians like Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and the Rolling Stones. Today, the location is only minutes from the city’s Loop business, financial, and shopping center, and close to Grant Park, Soldier Field, and the lakefront.
With the ground-breaking slated for early 2006, the 25-story Aristocrat Tower will have an art deco-inspired design in painted concrete with red masonry trim. Inside, its 146 residential units will range from 512-square-foot studios to one-bedroom/one-bath and spacious two-bedroom/two-bath residences and penthouses. All are equipped with private balconies and oversized windows to capture dramatic cityscapes and the lakefront. Featured are hardwood floors throughout and designer track and under-cabinet lighting. In the kitchen, residences are fitted with maple cabinetry with granite counter tops. Gourmet kitchen islands are optional. Master bathrooms provide soaking tubs with a separate glass-enclosed shower, maple vanities, and ceramic floors. The closets are copious and spacious, with walk-in closets in master bedroom suites. The penthouses offers wrap-around terraces in addition to balconies, and all residents have access to a rooftop deck with grill, secure heated indoor parking, an indoor dog run, bike room, and private storage. The doorman is on duty 24-hours daily.
Adjacent to Aristocrat Tower, Chess Lofts is an eight-story former industrial building being renovated into condo residences. The building once played a part in Chess Records’ manufacturing operations. Though not as grand as the tower units, the lofts offer fashionable work/living space at the same convenient location as Aristocrat Tower.
All units are currently on sale, with prices beginning at about $200,000 or slightly more. Construction will begin in Spring, 2006, on Aristocrat Tower, and slightly later on Chess Lofts.
