The Marquee
The new Marquee high-rise residential condo at 1454 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, is bringing a stylish flair to the city’s South Loop redevelopment. Constructed of glass and concrete, the exterior of the Marquee, with bay-type balconies in the center and around the corners, presents a textured, almost corrugated appearance, while the mansard roof capping its 25 stories suggests a French influence. The building occupies a highly-desirable site just south of the Loop’s financial and business centers and only blocks from Grant and Millennium Parks. On South Michigan Avenue, the tower also borders on the new Central Station Development, upgrading an area once occupied by the yards of the Illinois Central Railroad.
Inside the Marquee, 233 residential units range from spacious one bedroom/one bath to three bedrooms/three baths. All come with red oak hardwood flooring in most rooms and luxurious Berber carpeting in the bedrooms. The master suites offer walk-in closets, and bathrooms are floored and finished in natural stone. Kitchens provide custom wood cabinetry, granite counter tops, and stainless steel appliances. Most units have private balconies–some have two–and all provide breathtaking views of the city and/or the lakefront. The Marquee offers an unusual option in its Intelliplex touch-screen control system, which lets home owners control their individual heating and cooling environments, as well as ambient lighting. In addition, the system includes a pre-wired whole-home network that pipes music to built-in speakers in every room, with volume and resource controls in every room. Residents can link wall- and under-counter-mounted LCD televisions into the system, as well as plasma HDTV and MP3 recorders.
Amenities include a 24-hour doorman in attendance in the Marquee’s elegant lobby, a private theatre, rooftop garden with dog run, state-of-the-art fitness center, bike room, private storage areas, and deeded parking.
With construction in the offing, the Marquee promises to become one of Chicago’s most appealing residences. Its location places it within walking distance to the city’s finest shopping, dining, entertainment, and other cultural resources, including the Field Museum of Natural History, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Soldier Field, and Burnham Harbor.
