Vetro
“Vetro” the Italian word for “glass,” is also the appropriate name of new 31-story residential high-rise condo going up at 601 S. Wells Street in Chicago’s South Loop. Though the building structure is reinforced concrete, it features an all-glass facade designed to look like three glass cubes moving across each other. In a city noted for innovative architecture, Vetro stands out as sleek and contemporary, and it’s already one of the city’s hottest new addresses.
Vetro offers 233 residential units ranging from 523-square-foot studios to 2,067-square-foot, three bedroom penthouses. Of course, every residence features floor-to-ceiling windows to take in stunning skyline views, and Vetro’s windows also provide operable vents. Most residences have nine-foot ceilings, though the penthouses on the top floors have 11-foot ceilings, adding a special sense of light and space. Flooring is pre-finished hardwoods, with a choice of carpeting in the bedrooms. Some units are equipped with mirrored sliding closet doors. Bathrooms are finished in marble, and some units provide six-foot soaker tubs. Gourmet kitchens are outfitted in up-to-the-minute Poliform or Aya cabinetry, with Frigidaire stainless steel appliances. In keeping with its ultra-modern appearance, Vetro is pre-wired for high-speed Internet and cable TV, as well as providing state-of-the-art energy efficient heating and cooling systems.
Vetro’s 7th floor is surrounded by a broad outdoor terrace. Residences on this floor come with spacious private terraces. The seventh floor also houses the building’s sun deck and fully-equipped fitness center, with Yoga and Pilates classes for residents.
Vetro’s location only adds to its appeal. The building is a few short blocks from Sears Tower, the Lyric Opera and Loop businesses and shopping to the north, and an easy stroll to the Grant Park and the lakefront, Soldier Field, the Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium to the east. Just outside Vetro’s door is a well-established residential neighborhood, Printer’s Row, noted for its eclectic shopping, mix of casual and formal dining options, and world-class events, like the annual Printer’s Row Book Fair.
