165 Charles Street
World renowned architect, Richard Meier, is bringing his signature style to 165 Charles Street, the prestigious new residential building in New York’s vibrant West Village. Meier says that he wanted this project to embody the powerful relationship between art and architecture. Meier has been quoted as proclaiming, “Living here will be an extraordinary experience.”
The “extraordinary experience” starts from a distance, where the 16-story building has already become an icon of style. Created by glass and aluminum, the sleek 31-unit structure stands out a modern beacon. Unlike other famous Meier projects, 165 Charles Street is sold as finished, not raw, space. Meier has left his personal touch on everything from the chairs in the screening room to the fixtures in the luxury bathrooms. He even hand signed the inside of the kitchen cabinets. The jaw-dropping homes include modern touches like no others found in New York. Interior walls in the homes do not touch the ground, instead they appear to float. The outstanding craftsmanship extends to the interior translucent glass doors. In an unusual twist, shower bases are carved out a single piece of stone.
Residents also have exclusive access to a below-ground atrium, complete with pool and 15-foot waterfall. Other unparalleled luxuries include a private wine cellar and an acoustically designed 35-seat screening room. Homeowners will be assured that their residences will remain one-of-a-kind creations. Meier has made an agreement with the developers, Izak Senbahar and Simon Elias, that he will never include some of 165 Charles St.’s design aspects in any future project.
Prices range from more than one million for a 682 square foot studio to $18.5 million for the duplex penthouse, which is an incredible 4,551 square feet of luxury.
