The Grande
Though The Grande is not a new addition to Philadelphia’s skyline, this historic building recently has been renovated from office space to sophisticated condo residences. Perhaps better known to long-time city residents as The Packard Building, The Grande was originally built in 1924 in the rich Classic Revival style, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. All of its one-of-a-kind Art Deco and Beaux Artes ornamental elements, such as the lobby’s vaulted ceilings, elaborately-detailed decorative friezes, and stone floors and paneling, have been carefully preserved and lend the building a sense of traditional elegance. Located in the center of Philadelphia, The Grande provides unparalleled access to world-class shopping, the city’s Avenue of the Arts and Restaurant Row. Some of The Grande’s residences overlook Philadelphia’s City Hall, topped by its famous statue of William Penn. The University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and Temple University are nearby.
Twenty-five stories high, The Grande’s residential units begin on the 15th floor and offer a choice of two dozen different floor plans to suit individual needs–including some handicapped-adaptable units. The homes are available in one and two bedroom configurations with one to 3.5 baths. Some penthouses on the top floors occupy two levels, linked by a spiral staircase, with the master suite on the second level. All units feature nine-foot ceilings, oversized windows, and unusually spacious rooms. Some residences have separate dining areas, while others have eat-in kitchens. All kitchens feature granite counter tops and Shaker-style wooden cabinetry, including built-in wine racks, as well as top-quality, stainless steel appliances and ceramic-tiled floors. Bathroom are equipped with oversized soaking tubs, granite-topped vanities, and marble flooring. Heating and air-conditioning is individually-controlled.
Amenities at The Grande include pre-wiring for cable TV and high-speed Internet, an elegant lounge in the lobby, optional, additional private storage, and 24-hour doorman and concierge services. The building is pet-friendly. Indoor parking is available, and Philadelphia’s full a range of public transportation facilities are within one block of The Grande’s imposing marquis entrance. However, The Grande’s location at the very heart of Philadelphia, puts all of the city’s resources within easy walking distance.
