The White Building
The White Building is the first residential project in Philadelphia planned by Goldman Properties, a prominent New York development firm. Construction is currently underway. Once complete, the White Building will contain 16 condos, ranging in size from 1,000 square feet to 1,400 square feet. Retail shops will remain on the first floor. The building has a long, interesting history. It was built in 1867 for the S.S. White Dental company and the exterior still retains many period details.
This conversion has kept the best features of the historic building, while creating thoroughly modern and fresh living spaces. The original brick barreled ceilings and stunning, large arched windows remain, providing great natural light and a feeling of openness.
The building is located on the corner of Chestnut and 12th Streets in Center City, Philadelphia, in a neighborhood recently dubbed “B3” for “Blocks Below Broad.” B3 is quickly becoming populated by trendy city-dwellers, drawn to the increasing number of funky, upscale restaurants, clothing stores, and other retail shops. It is in the heart of Center City, making it convenient to the best the city has to offer. Elegant Rittenhouse Square, the Business District, major museums, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, the art galleries of Old City, and historic Society Hill are all only a stroll away. Goldman Properties believes that renaming this bustling section of Center City “B3” will give it a stronger identity of its own, making it as recognizable as South Beach in Miami, or Soho in New York. If The White Building sells well, expect to see many more condo conversions pop-up in B3. Although The White Building is not yet complete, Goldman Properties is currently taking reservations for the condominiums.
